Terrance Kubiseski is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology at York University's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of cellular signaling pathways, particularly Ras/RhoGTPases, and their roles in cell growth, movement, and detoxification. He uses Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism to study oxidative stress responses, aging, and disease mechanisms linked to neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Key research areas include the regulation of BRAP-2, SEM-4, and ELT-3 transcription factors in detoxification pathways, as well as the interplay between DNA damage responses and apoptosis. Recent work involves developing microfluidic tools for high-throughput toxicity screening of microplastics and studying mitochondrial stress resistance through HIF-1 and DJR-1.1 pathways.
His lab's findings demonstrate that BRAP-2 modulates SKN-1/Nrf2 signaling to regulate gst-4 expression, linking oxidative stress to lifespan extension. Collaborative projects combine genetics, biochemistry, and engineering to advance understanding of cellular stress responses and their clinical implications.
