Teresita Garza

Dr. Teresita Garza is a Professor of Communication in the Department of Communication within the School of Arts and Humanities at St. Edward’s University. She serves as the advisor for the campus chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association Honor Society, and emphasizes student creativity and service learning in her courses.

Her educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Communication, University of Iowa
• M.A. in Communication, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
• B.A. in Communication, University of Wisconsin-Parkside

Dr. Garza's research explores rhetorical theory and criticism, popular culture, communication theory, cultural studies, and Native American-Chican@ film. Her work critically examines how communication shapes cultural identities and social narratives through media and film, with particular attention to underrepresented communities.

She has received the following honor:

Dr. Garza has mentored numerous students who have pursued advanced degrees at top-ranked graduate programs, film schools, and law schools. Her advisees have earned Fulbright scholarships, academic fellowships, and prestigious internships, building successful careers across education, law, government, film, broadcast journalism, and philanthropy—with several achieving national and international recognition for their professional accomplishments.
