Professor Teresa Stoppani is a renowned architectural theorist and academic, currently serving as Professor of Architecture and Director of Architecture and Interior Design at Norwich University of the Arts. She holds a PhD in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Florence and has taught at institutions including the IUAV University of Venice, University of Greenwich, Architectural Association (London), and Leeds Beckett University, where she previously served as Head of the School of Architecture.
Her research explores the intersection of architecture theory and design practice, with a focus on urban paradigms, materiality, and responses to disaster. Notable works include *Paradigm Islands: Manhattan and Venice* (2010) and *Unorthodox Ways to Think the City* (2019). She leads the international research collective ThisThingCalledTheory and serves as executive editor of the AHRA journal *Architecture and Culture*.
Recent academic activities include keynote addresses at the 2024 Australasian Society for Continental Philosophy conference and the *Borders as Both Site and Method* conference at the University of Melbourne. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy, urban studies, and critical theory, with contributions to exhibitions and editorial roles in major architectural publications.
Professor Stoppani’s teaching spans design studio and architectural history/theory, emphasizing critical pedagogy and the sociopolitical dimensions of architectural practice. She actively supervises PhD candidates at institutions such as the Architectural Association and the University of York.
