Teresa Simon Almendal is a Professor of Financial Law at Stockholm University's Department of Law, Faculty of Law. She has held key leadership positions including Vice-Dean for Research (2018-2023) and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Faculty's teaching nomination board (since 2025). Her academic career includes serving as Director of Doctoral Studies (2015-2017) and leading the tax law research department at the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law (2007-2020).
Her research focuses on tax law, legal certainty, rule of law issues, and interdisciplinary studies spanning criminal law, procedural law, and European Convention compliance. She currently co-leads an interdisciplinary research project on 'Tax Tech, Tax Anomalies and the Rule of Law' with Lund University. Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on tax representative liability, procedural justice, and intersections between civil and tax law.
She teaches foundational and advanced tax law courses, supervises doctoral candidates, and co-authors Sweden's leading income tax textbook. She received research funding from Torsten and Ragnar Söderberg foundations and the Foundation for Support of Tax Law Research. Almendal maintains active collaborations through the Nordic Tax Research Council (Chair since 2015), European Tax Law Association, and as an expert for Swedish government inquiries on tax procedures.
