Dr. Teresa Franco is a Lecturer in Italian at the University of Oxford, where she also teaches at Keble and Magdalen College. Her academic journey includes a D.Phil. in Medieval and Modern Languages from Oxford (2013) following undergraduate studies at the University of Rome, La Sapienza. Previously, she held Part-time Lecturer and Language Tutor roles at Oxford (2010-16) before moving to the University of Manchester as Language Tutor (2016-17).
Her research focuses on literary translation, Italian reception of foreign texts, and women’s authorship. Notable projects include an examination of female translators’ roles in 1930s and 1980s Italy, and a monograph analyzing poet Giovanni Giudici’s translation work from English. She has edited three of Giudici’s notebooks and co-edited conference proceedings on translation in 20th-century Italian literature.
Teaching responsibilities span Italian language instruction and specialized modules on Sicilian authors, contemporary women writers, and modern literary analysis. Franco is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and contributes to Il Sole 24 Ore’s cultural supplement. Her peer-reviewed publications span journals such as The Italianist, Italian Studies, and Rivista Tradurre, with a focus on 20th-century Italian literary translation and women’s cultural contributions.
