Teresa Cook is a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at Keele University, specifically within the School of Allied Health Professions and Pharmacy. She serves as both an occupational therapy lecturer and placement lead, based in the MacKay Building on campus.
Her educational background includes:
- Qualification as an occupational therapist in 2000 from the University of Cape Town, South Africa
- NIHR funded Clinical Research MSc from the University of Sheffield (2015)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education (2020)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Health Simulation (2022)
Teresa has extensive professional experience, having worked as an occupational therapist in both South Africa and England in acute physical settings. She has been working in Higher Education since 2020. Her professional credentials include being HCPC registered, a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research interests focus on interprofessional education and the role of practice-based learning and simulation in occupational therapy education. Her scholarly work examines therapy staff attitudes and experiences with integrated occupational therapy and physiotherapy roles in acute settings, as well as the impact of clinical competencies on professional identity development.
Teresa's teaching experience includes pre-registration occupational therapy programs, with a focus on anatomy/psychology applications in occupational therapy practice, reasoning and decision making in occupational therapy, and preparation for practice placements.
Her professional contributions include several conference presentations on topics related to occupational therapy education and practice integration.
