Telemachos Mouschovias

Telemachos Mouschovias is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with The Grainger College of Engineering. His research focuses on the role of cosmic magnetic fields in star formation, including magnetic braking, ambipolar diffusion, and interstellar dust interactions. He has held significant academic roles since joining the university in 1977 as an assistant professor of physics and astronomy.

Education:

Research interests span astrophysics, relativity, and cosmology, with a deep focus on nonideal magnetohydrodynamics in star formation. His work addresses the interplay between magnetic fields and neutral matter, resolving key challenges like the angular momentum problem and protostellar mass function. Over decades, his theoretical predictions have been observationally confirmed without contradiction, distinguishing his contributions in the field.
