Tejaswini Ganti is an Associate Professor at New York University’s Department of Anthropology, affiliated with the College of Arts & Science. Her research focuses on the anthropology of media, media industries, and production cultures, with a particular emphasis on Indian cinema and globalization. She holds a Ph.D. (2000) from NYU, an M.A. (1994) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. (1991) from Northwestern University.
Her work explores language ideologies, translation practices, and the political economy of media production in Mumbai. Recent projects include a book manuscript on translation dynamics in Indian media worlds and a third edition of her authoritative Bollywood: A Guidebook to Popular Hindi Cinema. She has held an NEH Fellowship and is engaged with media commentary through platforms like The New York Times and Bloomberg Quint.
Her publications analyze themes such as censorship, cultural heritage, and labor practices in the Hindi film industry. She has given lectures on topics ranging from the history of Bollywood to the future of streaming platforms, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to media studies.
