Ted Toadvine is Nancy Tuana Director of Rock Ethics Institute and Professor of Philosophy at Penn State. His work bridges environmental philosophy, phenomenology, and temporality studies, introducing 'ecophenomenology' as a framework.
Research explores deep time across geological, evolutionary, and cosmic scales. Recent work challenges sustainability paradigms by examining flawed temporal understandings in environmental apocalypticism.
Authored 'Merleau-Ponty's Philosophy of Nature' (2009) and 'The Memory of the World' (2024). Current projects include a Cambridge Introduction to Environmental Humanities and co-editing Encyclopedia of Phenomenology.
Teaches courses on Nature and Environment, Critical Ecophenomenology, and Merleau-Ponty.
