Ted Poston is a Professor of Philosophy and the inaugural Director of the McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars at the University of Alabama. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Missouri (2006) and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2002). His research focuses on epistemology, particularly epistemic coherentism and explanatory reasoning, with applications to medical reasoning and rationality. He teaches advanced courses like Medical Knowledge & its Limits and Probability & Decision Theory, and organizes the annual Orange Beach Epistemology Workshop. Poston’s work bridges theoretical philosophy with applied issues in science and medicine, emphasizing how coherence and explanatory power underpin justification. His recent publications explore topics like epistemic plausibility, Bayesian coherence, and the role of background knowledge in perceptual justification.
