Tatiana Dimitriu is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews School of Biology. She investigates bacterial interactions with mobile genetic elements (MGEs) that carry antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes.
Her research focuses on how conjugative plasmids spread AMR and how bacterial defense systems like CRISPR-Cas and restriction-modification systems limit plasmid transmission. Using experimental evolution and molecular genetics, she studies mechanisms controlling MGE transmission to develop strategies against AMR spread.
Dr. Dimitriu leads the project 'Helping Bacteria resist antimicrobial resistance' funded by the Royal Society and has published in Nucleic Acids Research and Trends in Genetics.
