Tassy Parker, PhD, RN is a tenured Professor in Family & Community Medicine, and cross-appointed Professor in the Colleges of Nursing and Population Health at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM HSC). She holds leadership roles as Director of the Center for Native American Health, Associate Vice Chancellor for American Indian Health Research & Education, and Founding Executive Director of the Public Health Institute for Indigenous Knowledge and Development. An enrolled member of the Seneca Nation (Beaver Clan), she also serves on the NIH All of Us Research Program Advisory Panel and international Indigenous health committees.
Education: B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New Mexico with specialization in medical sociology. Her research focuses on American Indian health equity, community-based participatory research, and addressing social determinants of health through initiatives like the All Nations Wellness and Healing Center.
Current NIH-funded projects address hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer's, opioid/substance abuse, suicide prevention, and vaccine hesitancy among Indigenous communities. She mentors Indigenous health sciences students and researchers nationally while leading workforce development and culturally competent healthcare training programs.
