Taryn Mudge serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Temple University's Tyler School of Art and Architecture, where her scholarship integrates historical theory with contemporary design pedagogy and visual research methodologies.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in History and Theory of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania
- MArch from Portland State University
Dr. Mudge's research investigates how historical design philosophies inform modern education, specifically analyzing Alison and Peter Smithson's work alongside Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi to uncover shared attitudes toward "the real." She champions pedagogical approaches that teach students to adopt non-judgmental perspectives, critically engage with site contexts, and deconstruct designer subjectivity. With over ten years of instructional experience, she has developed curriculum across History and Theory, visual literacy, architectural representation, and studio instruction for undergraduate, graduate, and high school audiences.
