Dr. Tarun Tyagi - Academic Profile
Dr. Tarun Tyagi is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. His primary affiliation is with the Hwa Lab, where he focuses on translational research involving platelet biology and immunology. He holds a PhD in Life Sciences and has been recognized with prestigious awards including the 2024 JH Milstone Award in Hematology.
Research Interests
Dr. Tyagi’s work centers on understanding platelet dysfunction in pathophysiological conditions such as cancer, rare diseases, and cardiovascular disorders. His research explores molecular mechanisms of platelet-T cell interactions, mitochondrial function in platelets, and lipid remodeling in blood cell differentiation. He employs mouse models, human sample analyses, and in silico studies to bridge basic science with clinical applications.
Awards & Recognition
- 2024 JH Milstone Award (Hematology Research)
- 2024 Blavatnik Accelerator Award Finalist
- 2023 SITC Spring Scientific Oral Talk Award
- 2021 FOCIS Research Award
- 2014 MS Malhotra Award for Best Publication
Laboratory & Collaboration
Based in the Hwa Lab, Dr. Tyagi collaborates with leading researchers including Prof. John Hwa, Dr. Kanika Jain, and Dr. Diane Krause. His lab investigates platelet-mediated immune suppression in tumors and thrombo-inflammatory pathways in chronic diseases. Current projects include developing biomarkers for antiplatelet therapy efficacy and understanding mitochondrial roles in vascular integrity.
Future Directions
Dr. Tyagi aims to translate his findings into clinical tools for personalized medicine, focusing on platelet-based diagnostics and novel therapeutic targets in thrombosis and cancer immunology.
