Tarraneh Eftekhari is a Research Assistant Professor and Assistant Director at the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University. She is a radio astronomer specializing in astrophysical transients such as fast radio bursts (FRBs), superluminous supernovae, and tidal disruption events, with a focus on their radio properties and environmental characteristics.
- PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Harvard University (2021)
- Alumni of the Long Wavelength Array collaboration at the University of New Mexico (2015)
- Former CIERA Postdoctoral Fellow and NASA Einstein Fellow
Her research spans multi-messenger astronomy, utilizing observations across the electromagnetic spectrum. Key collaborations include the Fast and Fortunate for FRB Follow-up (F4), CHIME/FRB, and CMB-S4. She is particularly interested in tracing FRB progenitors via host galaxy studies and advancing millimeter transient detection with next-generation CMB surveys.
Recent work explores the uncharted millimeter transient sky, radio emission from superluminous supernovae, and multi-wavelength counterpart searches for FRBs. She leads CIERA's public communications and outreach initiatives and co-advises graduate students.
- NASA Einstein Fellowship (2022)
Eftekhari's educational background and professional journey reflect her dedication to transient research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her leadership role at CIERA bridges scientific exploration with community engagement.
