Tariq Syed

Dr. Tariq Syed is a Research Fellow at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf since October 2024, affiliated with the Chair of Algebraic Geometry within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His research focuses on algebraic geometry and topology, particularly applications of motivic homotopy theory to algebraic geometry and commutative algebra.

Education includes a Doctor rerum naturalium (2016–2019) and M.Sc./B.Sc. degrees from LMU München. He has held fellowships at institutions such as the University of Southern California, Università degli Studi di Milano, and the Steklov Mathematical Institute.

His research interests span algebraic K-theory, Hermitian K-theory, and motivic homotopy theory. Awards include DFG Walter Benjamin and standard DFG fellowships.

In addition to academic work, he engages in music, film, philosophy, and sports, reflecting a multidisciplinary lifestyle.
