Dr. Tariq Masood is a Reader in Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management at the University of Strathclyde. He holds a PhD in Reconfigurable Manufacturing from Loughborough University and has held roles at institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Rolls-Royce, Cranfield University, and Loughborough University. His research focuses on Industry 4.0 technologies, smart factories, renewable energy supply chains, and disaster-resilient operations, with a strong emphasis on UN Sustainable Development Goals. He has led initiatives like the Industrial Systems of the Future programme and the Disaster Resilient Operations (DROPS) network at Cambridge, fostering impactful research and high-calibre students.
Dr. Masood serves on editorial advisory boards for journals including IET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Twin, and Cobot, and is an academic editor of PeerJ Computer Science. He has organized conferences and contributed to projects like the KTP-funded 'iCoBOTS' smart farm manufacturing system. His recent awards include the StrathUnion Teaching Excellence Award (2025) and the 2024 RCIM Best Paper Award.
His work spans applications of Industry 4.0 in shipbuilding, generative AI for knowledge management, and blockchain in smart grids. He actively engages in professional activities, including peer review for EPSRC and UKRI, and serves as an external examiner for MSc programs in Smart Manufacturing and Management.
