James Aitken is a Professor of Operations Management at the University of Surrey's Surrey Business School. His career bridges industrial experience in manufacturing/logistics and academic leadership, including roles as Head of Department for Business Transformation (2015–2022) and securing £520k in KTP project funding. He holds a PhD from Cranfield University (1998) and an MBA from Strathclyde University (1989). His research focuses on supply chain resilience, sustainability, complexity, and Industry 4.0, with over 100 publications. He has advised multiple PhD students and collaborates globally. Notable works include frameworks on supply chain capital resilience and lean interventions in healthcare.
