Tariq Ahmad is a Professor of Biology at Colby College and holds the Dr. Charles C. and Pamela W. Leighton Research Fellowship. He serves as Chair of the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, balancing interdisciplinary leadership with his research in neurobiology and molecular genetics.
- Education: Postdoctoral Fellow at Gladstone Institutes (University of California San Francisco), Ph.D. in Cellular and Physiological Dynamics from the University of Notre Dame, M.Sc. in Medical Biotechnology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India, and B.Sc. (Honors) in Biochemistry from AMU, Aligarh, India
Research Interests focus on using Drosophila models to study:
- Pharmacological and genetic modifiers of ethanol-induced behaviors
- Impact of ethanol and neurodegenerative disease mutations on circadian rhythm
- Frontotemporal dementia mutation characterization
- Molecular genetics of autophagy and retinal degeneration
