Tara L. Diesbourg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at Oakland University's School of Health Sciences. Her role includes teaching Ergonomics and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) courses, alongside coordinating academic programs.
Education: She holds a Ph.D. from Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario), where her dissertation focused on spinal tissue material properties with aging. Previous degrees include a Master of Human Kinetics (Biomechanics) and an Honours Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of Windsor.
Research: Dr. Diesbourg’s work examines ergonomic interventions in workplace settings, pregnancy biomechanics, and occupational sitting-induced discomfort. Her current research priorities include ergonomic solutions for special populations (older adults, pregnant individuals, obese individuals, and those with chronic illnesses), collaborating with local industries to address job-specific challenges.
Professional Experience: A Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) and Registered Kinesiologist (R.Kin), she has 7 years of experience conducting ergonomic assessments for organizations like Queen’s University, Kingston Police Department, Canadian Federal Government, and the Department of National Defence.
Teaching: She teaches courses in ergonomics and occupational safety, emphasizing practical applications in real-world scenarios.
Personal: Enjoys gardening, cooking, and creative projects at home with her family.
