Tara Holm is a Professor of Mathematics at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2002). Her research focuses on symplectic geometry, exploring its intersections with algebraic geometry and discrete geometry. Notably, she investigates symplectic structures, their symmetries, and quantitative patterns in geometric data. Holm teaches courses such as Supervised Research and Reading at both Spring and Fall semesters.
Her work bridges classical and quantum mechanical frameworks, emphasizing geometric measurements and abstract manifold studies. Recent research includes toric origami manifolds and orbifold cohomology, contributing to advancements in geometric topology. She collaborates widely, with publications in top-tier journals like Duke Math. J. and Algebraic & Geometric Topology.
Holm is involved in educational initiatives like the Active Learning Initiative, enhancing teaching practices in mathematics. Her academic contributions span theoretical breakthroughs and pedagogical innovation, reflecting a commitment to both research and education.
