Tapio Reinekoski is a Doctoral Researcher at the Unit of Social Research, Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University. His PhD research (expected completion in 2025) centers on understanding how cities govern climate change through sociologically informed analyses of governance practices, uncertainty management, and long-term policy design. He is funded by the Research Council of Finland through projects WISE and LONGRISK, focusing on climate heating’s long-term repercussions and foresight for uncertain futures.
His research integrates science and technology studies, social theories of temporality, and practice theories to explore how fictional or imaginary elements (e.g., future scenarios) become actionable realities in climate governance. Upcoming postdoctoral work will expand this analysis to insurance and carbon offsetting, aiming to uncover shared logics of 'as if' governance.
Reinekoski has collaborated on projects like REPAIR CLIMAKEDO INDU, emphasizing interdisciplinary resilience-building and policy experimentation. His publications span journals like Political Studies, Ecology and Society, and The Sociological Review, addressing climate governance rhythms, knowledge mobilization, and urban climate work practices.
His methodological toolkit includes scenario exercises, causal modeling, and participatory policymaking simulations. Despite no listed scientific awards, his work reflects significant grants and institutional support from Finnish research councils.
