Tapas Mishra is a Professor of Financial Economics and Head of Banking and Finance at the Southampton Business School. He leads the Centre for Empirical Research in Finance and Banking, collaborating with global institutions like the IMF and World Bank. His expertise spans financial economics, econometric modelling, and sustainable finance, with a focus on big data and macroprudential policy.
He holds a PhD from the Catholic University of Louvain and has held roles at Swansea University, IIASA (Austria), and the Institute for Future Studies (Sweden). Awards include the Vyasa Gaurava Award (2021) and the Marie Curie Fellowship (2005). His research explores corporate finance, cryptocurrency, and interdisciplinary topics like demography-environment interactions.
Recent publications address greenwashing mitigation, Bitcoin investor behavior, and EU sustainable finance regulations. He supervises multiple PhD students and has secured £1.5M in research funding. Tapas is also an Honorary Professor and has contributed to policy evaluations in health and education sectors.
