Tao Zhang

Dr. Tao Zhang is a tenured Full Professor at the University of North Texas (UNT) in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation. He serves as the Director of the Pediatric Movement and Physical Activity Laboratory and has made significant contributions to research through over 170 presentations, 100 refereed articles, and 20 funded projects including Project HSHL and Project MOVE.

His research explores supportive physical activity environments, motivation, motor skills, and health promotion for underserved children and families. He integrates psychological, pedagogical, and behavioral approaches to address systemic barriers in physical activity access.

Dr. Zhang holds leadership roles as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Teaching, Research, and Media in Kinesiology and Associate Editor for the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education. He has mentored students who collectively won over 25 awards and received recognition for his editorial contributions to multiple journals.
