Dr. Tao Wei serves as Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Course Director of Immunology at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Bradenton, FL. With decades of teaching experience across institutions including UT San Antonio and Southwest Baptist University, he instructs undergraduate and graduate courses in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Biology.
His educational foundation includes a PhD in Microbiology from Uppsala University (Sweden) and an MD from Henan Medical University (China) specializing in Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases. Postdoctoral training encompassed Molecular Biology at California Institute of Technology and Cancer Immunology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Research centers on microbial pathogenesis mechanisms, particularly SOS response in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii biofilms, DNA translocation motors, and CRISPR applications. Current work pivots toward Artificial Intelligence deployment in medical education through Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) and Large Language Models for biomedical science.
Publication analysis (2012-2023) reveals consistent focus on bacterial stress responses and motor proteins, with recent expansion into AI-driven virology and medical education. Collaborative work with Dr. Peixuan Guo (Ohio State University) dominates his nanomedicine and viral motor protein research.
Dr. Wei serves as Scientist Reviewer for US Army Medical Research Command (USAMRMC/CDMRP) on Infectious Diseases and as AI Specialist for RLHF deployment in healthcare. These service roles reflect his recognized expertise despite no explicitly mentioned awards.
Mentorship includes graduate students Shakinah Chellappa, Reshma Maredia, and Navya Devineni alongside undergraduates Audra Addison, Ally Parker, and Katie Leiker. His collaborative framework with Dr. Peixuan Guo has generated numerous student-coauthored publications across microbiology and immunology domains.
Current research integrates wet-lab microbiology with computational approaches through Ohio State University collaborations. Future trajectory emphasizes AI applications for medical education innovation and healthcare outcomes improvement, building on his dual expertise in infectious diseases and machine learning.
