Dr. Tanzil Chowdhury is a Senior Lecturer in Public Law at Queen Mary University of London and Co-Director of the Centre of Law and Society in a Global Context. He holds a BA (Hons), MPhil, and PhD from the University of Manchester. His research focuses on public law, constitutional reform, and Marxist social theory, with notable work on colonial constitutionalism, war powers, and racialized policing. He has held visiting positions at institutions including The New School (New York) and Hong Kong University.

Research Interests: Dr. Chowdhury examines constitutional reform through neo-Marxist frameworks, analyzing colonial legacies in British Overseas Territories and the Chagos Archipelago. His work critiques neoliberal university structures and advocates for anti-capitalist legal scholarship. Recent projects include studies on police abolitionism and executive impunity in military contexts.
Engagement & Impact: He co-founded the Northern Police Monitoring Project and advises organizations like the Independent Workers of Great Britain. His public writing addresses race, policing, and decolonization in venues such as The Guardian and Verso. He is building academic partnerships with Palestinian institutions through FOBZU initiatives.
Teaching: Undergraduate courses include Public Law, Jurisprudence, and European Union Law, alongside contributions to Queen Mary’s Paris partnership program.
