She has held the position of Professor of Developmental Biology since 2016, with prior roles including Reader (2013–2015), Senior Lecturer (2004–2012), and Lecturer (1997–2004). Her research focuses on the development and function of vertebrate sensory systems, particularly the inner ear, lateral line, and olfactory system in zebrafish.
- Education: PhD in Zoology (University of Cambridge, 1992–1994), BA Natural Sciences (University of Cambridge, 1986–1989)
Her work investigates cell fate choice, pattern formation, and morphogenesis in sensory organs. Key areas include semicircular canal development, Adgrg6 signaling pathway analysis, and drug discovery targeting inner ear disorders. She has secured grants from the Wellcome Trust, EPSRC, and BBSRC.
Notable achievements include identifying signaling pathways in the ear and developing imaging tools. Her lab has published extensively on topics such as otolith formation, cilia dynamics, and neurogenesis. Awards include fellowships from the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, EMBO, and Wellcome Trust.
- Grants: Wellcome Trust, EPSRC, BBSRC
