Tanya Poole serves as a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Human Services within Western Carolina University's College of Education and Allied Professions, bringing 25 years of expertise in Parks and Recreation Management and Environmental Education.
Her academic credentials include:
- MS in Environmental Education from Montreat College
- BS in Elementary Education (Biology concentration) from Western Carolina University, 2000
Central to her teaching philosophy is community engagement through hands-on, place-based learning that challenges students to actively shape their environments. Her courses emphasize practical skill application in Environmental Education Experiences, Nature Rx therapies, Outdoor Skills development, and Wildlife Resource Management.
Prior to her current role, Tanya coordinated North Carolina's statewide Project WILD program for 21 years at the Wildlife Resources Commission and developed three foundational PRM courses during her 9-year adjunct tenure at WCU, including the innovative Women's Outdoor Skills Academy.
