Dr. Tania Lisboa serves as a Research Fellow in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music (RCM) since 2008, following her initial appointment as Research Associate in 2001. She maintains an honorary Research Fellowship at Imperial College London and holds a commissioner position with the International Society for Music Education’s Commission for the Education of the Professional Musician.
Her academic foundation includes doctoral research at Sheffield University, where she conducted longitudinal studies with young cellists to explore connections between musical understanding and multi-modal teaching methodologies.
Research priorities are structured around:
- Expert memory in musical performance contexts
- Performance education frameworks and pedagogical innovation
- Rehearsal communication dynamics and cognitive processes
- Musical understanding development through experiential learning
Since 2003, she has directed the RCM’s international videoconferencing programme, establishing collaborative networks with conservatoires and universities across the USA, Europe, and Asia. Complementing her academic profile, she maintains an active career as a solo cellist with global performance engagements and notable recordings of Guarnieri and Villa-Lobos works for Meridian Records.
