Catherine Rimer is a Historical Cello Professor at the Royal College of Music (RCM), specializing in performance on both period and modern instruments. As a globally active cellist, she has performed with leading ensembles including Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique since 1996, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for over 20 years. Her expertise spans repertoire from Monteverdi to Stravinsky, with notable guest principal roles in major orchestras.
- Education: Studied with Emma Ferrand (RNCM), Alexander Baillie (RAM), Steven Doane (Eastman School of Music), and Steven Isserlis (Prussia Cove)
- Teaching: Conducted workshops, masterclasses, and led programs like the Monteverdi Apprentice Scheme and Ithaca College Exchange Program
Her chamber music collaborations include performances with principal players of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, while her solo work features concerti by Haydn, Beethoven, and John Garth on period instruments. In 2022, she served as Cello Professor at Brazil’s FEMUSC festival, teaching continuo and performing works by Rameau, Bach, and Villa-Lobos.
