معرفی
Tanay Karademir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (2011), following an M.Sc. (2009) and B.Sc. (2004) in the same field from Georgia Tech and Bogazici University, respectively. He has been serving at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2013, after an academic appointment at Maltepe University (2011–2012) and a research assistantship at Georgia Tech (2007–2011).
His research focuses on geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, with specific emphasis on geomaterials, geosynthetics, and polymer-based engineering materials. His work investigates the mechanical behavior of geosynthetic interfaces under elevated temperatures, automation of triaxial testing systems, and the performance of landfill liner systems.
The recent publications of Dr. Karademir reveal a strong trend in experimental geotechnical testing under thermal conditions, particularly in waste containment applications. His work bridges materials science and civil infrastructure, focusing on durability, interface mechanics, and laboratory automation.
Scientific Awards:
- Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) Fellowship (2010 – 2011)
- Doctoral Research Assistantship, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (2007 – 2011)
Dr. Karademir has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses including Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, and Designing with Geosynthetics. He has advised laboratory instruction and course delivery across multiple institutions. While no formal grants are listed, his fellowship and assistantship reflect significant research support during doctoral studies. He was affiliated with the Geosystems Engineering Group at Georgia Tech during his doctoral research.
His work contributes to advancing sustainable and resilient geotechnical systems, particularly in challenging thermal environments.
