Tamás Fischer is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University's John Curtin School of Medical Research, leading the Fischer Group in the Department of Genome Sciences. His research investigates connections between chromatin structure, pervasive transcription, and RNA surveillance mechanisms influencing genome stability in cancer and aging-related diseases.
The Fischer Lab employs interdisciplinary approaches combining biochemistry, genomics, and synthetic biology to elucidate fundamental mechanisms of epigenetic regulation. Research themes include chromatin-mediated repression of transcription, RNA quality control pathways, and development of molecular tools for precision cancer therapeutics.
Recent publications demonstrate significant contributions to understanding RNA-DNA hybrid functions in DNA repair mechanisms, nuclear RNA surveillance complexes, and chromatin remodeling in genomic stability maintenance. The group maintains active international collaborations and trains PhD students in genomic sciences and molecular biology techniques.
