Tammy Hedderly

Tammy Hedderly is an acute paediatric neurologist at Evelina London Children's Hospital (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust) and serves as an Adjunct Reader at King's College London. She was elected Vice-Chair of the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome (ESSTS) in June 2023. Her clinical practice encompasses general paediatric neurology with specialized focus on movement disorders, brain injuries, and neuropsychology. She has developed and leads TANDeM, a national multidisciplinary service for children with tics, Tourette’s syndrome, stereotypies, functional neurological disorders, and paroxysmal dyskinesias. She also directs diagnostic services for Autism Spectrum Disorders and Wilson's Disease.

Dr. Hedderly's research integrates movement disorders with cognitive neuropsychiatry, examining genetic, immunological, and environmental factors in neurodevelopmental conditions. She has pioneered descriptions of novel clinical phenomena including 'Intense Imagery Movements' and pandemic-related 'Functional Tic-like Movements'. Her work involves large-scale international collaborations across Europe and North America through ESSTS research consortia.

Her recent publications demonstrate strong focus on Tourette syndrome pathophysiology, COVID-19 impacts on pediatric movement disorders, genetic associations in neuropsychiatric conditions, and clinical guideline development. Research trends emphasize neuroimmunological pathways, gene-environment interactions, and evidence-based treatment frameworks.

Dr. Hedderly leads the TANDeM clinical service and collaborates within multiple international research teams investigating neurodevelopmental disorders. Her work bridges clinical neurology with research in neurogenetics and neuropsychiatry.
