Nina Browner

Nina Browner, MD is The Bryson Distinguished Professor of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, where she serves as Neurology Vice Chair of Education, Division Chief of Movement Disorders, Program Director of Movement Disorders Fellowship, and Director of the Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence.

Dr. Browner has extensive training in movement disorders under Dr. Stanley Fahn. Her research focuses on movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, cortical basal ganglionic degeneration, tremor, restless leg syndrome, tics, Tourette Syndrome, dystonia, myoclonus, ataxia, Huntington's disease, chorea, tardive dyskinesia, hemifacial spasm, stereotypies, and stiff-person syndrome. She has particular expertise in treatment with Botulinum toxin A and B types.

Her research publications demonstrate a consistent focus on Parkinson's disease and movement disorders, with recent work examining gait rehabilitation techniques and fall prediction in Parkinson's patients. Earlier work focused on functional MRI applications in understanding neural activation patterns and visuomotor processing across different age groups.

Dr. Browner has developed comprehensive clinical services for patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders at UNC. She oversees care for approximately 2,200 unique Parkinson's disease patients annually, providing interdisciplinary care addressing motor, non-motor, and cognitive symptoms. Through her leadership, the Movement Disorders Clinic at UNC has secured recognition as a Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence.

Her clinical research involves collaborations with other researchers across multiple institutions, resulting in peer-reviewed publications in neurology and movement disorders specialties.
