Tamara Taillieu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. She is also a Research Scientist at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP), focusing on childhood adversity, trauma, and mental health outcomes. Dr. Taillieu holds a PhD in Applied Health Sciences from the University of Manitoba (2019), alongside degrees in Human Ecology and Sociology. Her research emphasizes child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and their lifelong impacts on health, with a special focus on military and public safety personnel well-being. She has received multiple awards, including nominations for the Governor General’s Gold Medal and recognition for her work on trauma and public health.

Research Interests: Dr. Taillieu explores how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) influence mental health, substance use, and resilience across the lifespan. She collaborates with the Childhood Adversity and Resilience (CARe) Research Team and the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT), focusing on interventions for correctional workers, veterans, and families affected by trauma. She has pioneered studies linking ACEs to military and first responder mental health, as well as pandemic-related stressors in adolescents and young adults.
Awards: Over 15 awards and fellowships, including recognition for her dissertation on pregnancy violence and child outcomes, and her work on public safety personnel mental health.
Teaching & Grants: Dr. Taillieu teaches courses on family violence, biostatistics, and addictions. She has secured grants for projects on correctional worker well-being and ACEs in military populations, with a focus on community-led research models.
Labs/Teams: Member of the CARe Research Team, Military Mental Health Research Group, and CIPSRT ARC Network, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to trauma and resilience.
