Tamara Jacka is Professor in the Department of Political & Social Change at the Australian National University. Her research examines gender relations and social transformation in contemporary China, with particular focus on rural-urban migration, women's political participation, and development approaches.
Her research interests center on the intersection of gender, migration, and social change in Chinese society. She employs qualitative methodologies to investigate how rural women navigate urbanization processes and political structures.
Recent publications demonstrate a focus on rural governance, family reproduction strategies, and labor dynamics. Her work consistently engages with themes of gender equity and social justice within China's rapid development context.
Professor Jacka received the Francis Hsu Prize from the American Anthropological Association for her book Rural Women in Urban China: Gender, Migration, and Social Change (2006).
