She holds a BEc (Hons) from ANU and a DPhil from the University of Oxford, where she focused on Chinese regional development. Her research spans demographic change, gender inequality, environmental economics, and geoeconomics, with recent work examining China's Belt and Road Initiative and Australia's strategic position in the Indo-Pacific.
Key research areas include the economic impacts of China's one-child and two-child policies, rural-urban migration, and the interplay between education, income inequality, and carbon emissions. She co-leads research groups on Climate Economics and Policy and Adaptation, Livelihoods and Development in Asia and the Pacific.
Her recent publications analyze Australia-China trade dynamics, geoeconomic strategies of the Quad countries, and the socio-economic implications of China's 'geoeducation' initiatives. Jane’s interdisciplinary approach bridges economics with political science and environmental studies, addressing both domestic and global challenges stemming from China’s economic rise.
