Professor Paul Burke is a Professor and Deputy Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU), within the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics. His research focuses on energy and environmental economics, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, addressing topics like urban air pollution, electric vehicle policies in China, and energy transitions in Southeast Asia. He holds a BAgrEc (Hons I) from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Economics from ANU.
Research & Teaching:
Teaches IDEC8029 Issues in Applied Microeconomics. Editorial roles include Associate Editor of Asian-Pacific Economic Literature and Editorial Board member of Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies. Advised five PhD students and delivered executive education in microeconomics, environmental economics, and energy economics.
Awards & Affiliations:
Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (FASSA) and Distinguished Fellow of the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society. Active in projects like the ANU Grand Challenge Zero Carbon for the Asia Pacific and the Australia-Germany Energy Transition Hub.
Key Research Themes:
Environmental and energy policy in developing countries, climate change mitigation, renewable energy adoption, and economic impacts of natural disasters. Recent work explores electric vehicle subsidies in China, coal phase-out strategies in Indonesia and Vietnam, and low-emission zones in Japan.
