Tamaki Mihic is a Lecturer in Japanese Studies at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on comparative literature, translation studies, and the cultural impact of disasters, particularly post-Fukushima Japan. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and a BA(Hons) from the University of Auckland, alongside NAATI certification in Japanese-English translation.
Dr. Mihic teaches courses such as JPNS 2670 Love and Death in Japanese Literature and ICLS 1002 Foundations of Comparative Literature. Her supervision areas include Contemporary Japanese Literature, Translation Studies, and Exophonic literature. Notable awards include the Inoue Yasushi Award (2016) and a University teaching fellowship (2015).
Her research explores themes like translatability in Japanese-English literature and the evolution of Japanese national identity post-2011. Key publications include her 2020 monograph Re-imagining Japan after Fukushima and articles on script choice in Japanese emails and post-disaster narratives.
