Luisa Bienati is a Full Professor of Japanese Language and Literature at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where she has served since 2002. She currently holds the position of Vice-Rector for Teaching and chairs the Technical-Scientific Committee of the Ca' Foscari Challenge School. Her academic roles include leadership in quality assurance, international research collaborations, and editorial work in Japanese studies.
Her research focuses on modern and contemporary Japanese literature, with particular emphasis on Tanizaki Jun'ichiro's aesthetics, post-Fukushima narratives, and comparative literature. She has directed major projects like ESAGOV (Erasmus+), exploring Algerian higher education governance. Her work bridges Japanese literary analysis with cultural critique, emphasizing urban space, trauma, and translation.
Bienati has supervised over 300 theses and mentored doctoral students in topics ranging from nuclear trauma to postmodern narratives.
