Tam Phan

Tam Phan, PharmD, AAHIVP is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Pharmacy, formally known as USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He practices at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, delivering specialized patient-centered care for LGBTQ+ communities and individuals living with HIV. His faculty responsibilities include teaching various classes and curriculum development for USC School of Pharmacy Undergraduate Programs, including the Pharmacology and Drug Development major and minor in Science and Management of Biomedical Therapeutics.

Education:

• B.S. in Biological Sciences from University of California, Irvine
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from USC School of Pharmacy
• Postgraduate residency training in community pharmacy at USC School of Pharmacy (with teaching certificate)

Dr. Phan specializes in HIV/AIDS care, LGBTQ+ health equity, comprehensive medication management, and community-based pharmacy practice. His research focuses on addressing health disparities among sexual and gender minorities through pharmacist-led interventions, curriculum development for inclusive healthcare education, and understanding mental health determinants in vulnerable populations. He integrates his clinical expertise with educational initiatives to advance health equity and improve care for marginalized communities.

His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on LGBTQ+ healthcare access, pharmacy education innovation, mental health disparities, and pandemic response in global contexts. The research trends show his commitment to addressing healthcare inequities through community pharmacy services, educational interventions, and population health approaches.

Dr. Phan serves as Faculty Advisor for Phi Lambda Sigma and Rx Pride. He is principal investigator on a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) grant focused on implementing pharmacist-delivered pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis in high-priority HIV prevention counties in California. His work aims to expand access to key biomedical prevention strategies and identify necessary changes in law, policy, and funding to support pharmacist-delivered HIV prevention services.

He maintains an active clinical practice at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, where he previously served as Clinical Pharmacy Program Coordinator, establishing and expanding pharmacy services for LGBTQ+ patients and those living with HIV.
