Tam Nomoto Schumann

Tam Nomoto Schumann is a Lecturer at the UCI School of Law and a retired Judge of the Superior Court of Orange County, California. She holds expertise in Civil, Criminal, and Family Law, developed over 34 years on the judicial bench. She is the first Asian American woman appointed to the Orange County Bench and has held leadership roles including Immediate Past President of the California Judges Association, Chair of its Ethics Committee, and Vice Chair of the California Judges Ethics Committee. She also chaired the Orange County Campaign Finance & Ethics Commission.

Her professional contributions extend to academic and judicial ethics, including presenting a 2019 paper on ethics at the Vatican and co-developing a Law School Wellness and Ethics workshop for California law students. She currently teaches Community Property and has prior teaching experience in related legal subjects.

Judge Schumann’s career highlights include national and international engagements with the National Women Judges Association and judicial ethics advocacy. Her work emphasizes ethical standards in legal practice and education.
