Dr. Takuya Segawa is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich, affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Physical Sciences (IMPS). He holds positions including Senior Scientist for Education and Head of Physical Chemistry Internships at IMPS/LPC. His research focuses on magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR, EPR, ODMR) and quantum sensing with nanodiamonds. Notable achievements include developing inexpensive NMR spectrometers and advancing hyperpolarization techniques for enhanced imaging resolution. Segawa has received prestigious fellowships, including the Branco Weiss Fellowship (2017) and the ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship (2014).
Education: PhD in Chemistry (EPFL, 2013), BSc/MSc in Chemistry (ETH Zurich, 2008). His work spans nanodiamond fabrication, defect engineering, and applications in quantum sensing and biomedical imaging. Current projects include nanoscale quantum sensing with NV centers and distance measurements between nanoparticles. He teaches courses in General Chemistry and Spectroscopy at ETH Zurich.
Publications highlight innovations in multidimensional nuclear spin spectroscopy, benchtop NMR instrumentation, and nanodiamond-based pH sensing. His contributions bridge fundamental physics with practical applications in materials science and biotechnology.
