Takuya Onoda is an Associate Researcher at the Center for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) at Sciences Po, Paris. He is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (2022–2024), conducting research on regulatory governance and democratic politics in advanced democracies.
His research focuses on comparative public policy and political economy, particularly the role of the state, regulatory policymaking, and social and health policies. He investigates how unelected institutions—such as independent regulatory agencies and expert committees—shape public service provision, with a geographic focus on Europe and Japan.
Takuya Onoda has been recognized through prestigious fellowships, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship and the Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European University Institute. These reflect his standing in the field of European and comparative political studies.
He received his PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics, a BA and MA in Law and Political Science from the University of Tokyo, and was a visiting doctoral fellow at the Centre for the Sociology of Organizations. His current book project, part of the POLREG initiative, examines the politicization of regulatory agencies and the rationing of public services in affluent democracies, especially in drug financing policies.
He is actively engaged in research but there is no public information on student supervision, teaching roles, or grants beyond his fellowship. He is affiliated with a vibrant research center that promotes interdisciplinary work on European integration, state transformation, and democratic challenges.
