Pieter de Wilde

Prof. Pieter de Wilde is Chair in European Politics & Society at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts. He previously held professorial roles at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), including Professor in Political Science (2019-2023), Professor in European Studies (2018-2019), and Associate Professor (2016-2018). His research focuses on political conflict over European integration, globalization, and democratic governance. Key areas include EU responsiveness, Euroscepticism, and the role of unelected representatives in liberal democracy.

De Wilde led projects like Unelected Representatives (exploring activism's impact on democracy) and RECONNECT (addressing EU democratic backsliding). He contributed to the WZB Berlin Social Science Center's Political Sociology of Cosmopolitanism and Communitarianism. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oslo, researching EU politicization.
