Takuo Sugaya is a Professor of Economics at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, specializing in microeconomic theory, game theory, and political economy. He holds a PhD from Princeton University (2012), an MA from the University of Tokyo (2007), and a BA in International Relations from the University of Tokyo (2005). His research focuses on dynamic games, including repeated games, stochastic games, and Bayesian frameworks, examining long-term cooperative relationships and strategic behavior.
Key research interests include repeated games with private monitoring, collusion dynamics, policy enforcement, and electoral campaigns. He has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Japan Academy Medal (2021), JSPS Prize (2021), and Kenichi Miyazawa Prize (2020). His work appears in top journals like Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, and Review of Economic Studies.
Sugaya teaches core courses in microeconomics and managerial economics at Stanford GSB and has served as an Associate Editor for Journal of Economic Theory and Economic Theory. His professional activities include organizing conferences on game theory and institutional economics.
