Takako Schaninger, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, serving as a Hospital Epidemiologist. She chairs the VA Infection Control Committee and holds HIV certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Her roles include clinical care and research in infectious diseases.

Research Interests: Focuses on infection control strategies for intracardiac devices, management of HBV/HIV coinfections, and hepatitis C epidemiology in Kentucky. Active projects include hand hygiene compliance monitoring and evaluating steroid use in pneumonia management.
