Dr. Thein Myint is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky. He holds dual roles as Associate Director of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program and Associate Fellowship Program Director. His primary affiliation is within the Division of Infectious Diseases, with additional clinical ties to the Bluegrass Care Clinic and Kentucky AIDS Education and Training Center (KY AETC).
He completed his medical training at the University of Medicine in Mandalay, Myanmar, followed by residency at the University Hospital of Brooklyn and fellowship at the University of Kentucky. His research focuses on fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, diagnostic methodologies for CNS infections, and HIV-associated coagulopathy.
Dr. Myint has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications since 2012, emphasizing fungal pathogen diagnostics, histoplasmosis epidemiology, and antifungal stewardship. His work bridges clinical practice and laboratory science, particularly in improving diagnostic accuracy for life-threatening infections.
Notable grant activities include studies on antibiotic resistance patterns and fungal biomarker validation. He maintains active participation in the KY AETC, contributing to HIV/AIDS education initiatives. Collaborations span institutions like the Gill Heart Institute and Markey Cancer Center.
