Tajinder Hayer is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Lancaster University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), based in the English and Creative Writing department. His research focuses on writing for stage, radio, film, and television, with a particular emphasis on British Asian subject matter and genres like Science Fiction (SFF/Fantastika), fantasy, and horror, especially post-apocalyptic narratives and adaptation studies. He actively supervises Creative Writing PhD students specializing in scriptwriting for film, TV, radio, or theatre, and collaborates with colleagues within and beyond his department.
Key research projects include the North West Black Asian Minority Ethnic and Refugee Playwrights Development Scheme (2018, funded by Arts Council England) and Countermapping Urban Palestine (2024). He contributed to the Graphic Futures project (2017-2018), exploring graphic novels as tools for envisioning social futures. His creative works include the Papatango Prize-winning play Ghost Stories from an Old Country (2021), showcased at Leeds Playhouse.
