University of Illinois Urbana-Champaignمعرفی
Tai-Chang Chiang is a Research Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with The Grainger College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (1978) and a B.S. from National Taiwan University (1971). His research focuses on surfaces, interfaces, and ultrathin films of topological insulators, charge density wave compounds, and other functional materials. Techniques include molecular beam epitaxy, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and synchrotron X-ray scattering. Key achievements include pioneering work on quantum well states, electronic chirality in graphene, and charge density wave transitions in TiSe2. Notable awards include the Davisson-Germer Prize (2015) and election to Academia Sinica (2016).
Research interests emphasize quantum confinement effects, spin-orbit coupling, and emergent phenomena in nanoscale systems. Over 150 peer-reviewed articles span topics like topological surface states, Berry phase visualization, and femtosecond dynamics. Collaborations involve Advanced Light Source (Berkeley), Argonne National Laboratory, and international synchrotron facilities. His Chiang Research Group explores novel electronic and spintronic properties in tailored nanostructures.
